A Rheem thermostat installation in West Palm Beach typically runs $180 to $420 installed, including the thermostat, wiring verification, and system calibration. We stock Rheem-compatible thermostats on our trucks and can usually handle the swap same-day when you call before noon. Most owners discover the thermostat has failed when the air handler won’t kick on, or when the display reads five degrees off from what the room actually feels like. A dead screen, a system that short-cycles, or a house that never quite reaches the set temperature are the three calls we get most often from Rheem owners in West Palm Beach.
Which Rheem Models This Applies To
Rheem thermostats fall into a few distinct families, and the compatibility question trips up more homeowners than any other part of this job. The Rheem EcoNet line is built for Rheem’s communicating systems, which means those thermostats talk back and forth with the air handler using a proprietary digital signal, not the standard 24-volt wiring you see on older units. If you have a Rheem system with an EcoNet control board, a generic thermostat will not work, no matter what the packaging says. That’s the compatibility gotcha we see most often in West Palm Beach homes.
For conventional Rheem systems without the EcoNet board, a quality aftermarket thermostat from Honeywell, Emerson, or Ecobee installs cleanly and often gives you features the original Rheem thermostat never had. We carry OEM Rheem replacements plus those aftermarket options on the truck, and we’ll match the right one to your model number before we touch a wire. Rheem’s newer smart thermostats also require a C-wire (common wire) for power. Roughly a third of West Palm Beach homes we visit don’t have a C-wire run to the thermostat, which means we either pull a new wire or install a power adapter kit. That’s a real cost difference, and we’ll tell you about it before we quote.
We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with Rheem. That matters because we’re not limited to whatever the manufacturer happens to sell. We’ll put the right thermostat on your wall, whether it says Rheem on the box or not.

Signs Your Rheem Thermostat Installation Is Failing
- Blank or flickering display. A thermostat that goes dark usually means a lost power connection, a tripped float switch on the condensate pan, or dead batteries. If the screen flickers, the thermostat itself is usually failing internally, not just losing power.
- Set temperature and room temperature don’t match. When the thermostat says 74 but the room feels like 82, the temperature sensor has drifted out of calibration. Rheem thermostats are typically accurate to within one degree; a three-degree gap means the sensor is failing.
- System short-cycles. The AC kicks on for three minutes, shuts off, then kicks on again ten minutes later. This is often a thermostat relay sticking or a sensor misreading the room temperature. It burns through compressors fast in West Palm Beach heat, so this one is worth catching early.
- Unresponsive buttons or touchscreen. Rheem’s older touchscreen thermostats have a known failure mode where the digitizer layer stops registering touches in certain areas of the screen. If you have to press hard or tap twice, the thermostat is on its way out.
- System won’t respond to the thermostat at all. You can have a perfectly healthy air handler and a thermostat that simply isn’t sending the call for cooling. We check the system first to rule out the equipment, then we test the thermostat’s output voltage. When the call for cooling never leaves the thermostat, the thermostat is the problem, and the fix is a swap.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Rheem thermostat installation in West Palm Beach runs $180 to $420 installed. A basic non-programmable Rheem thermostat runs $180 to $240 installed. A smart Wi-Fi thermostat, whether Rheem EcoNet or a Honeywell or Ecobee model, lands between $280 and $420 depending on whether we need to pull a new C-wire. Every quote is a written price before we start, covering the thermostat, installation, wiring verification, and system calibration so the new thermostat reads and controls accurately from the first cycle.
If your system uses a communicating EcoNet thermostat, figure closer to the top of that range or slightly above, because the thermostat itself costs more and we verify the digital communication protocol after install. We don’t pad the labor on those. They just take a few extra minutes to commission properly.
The work is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the thermostat fails or the installation has a problem within a year, we return and make it right at no charge. No argument, no trip fee, no fine print.
DIY or Call Us?
Installing a thermostat means working with low-voltage wiring, but that doesn’t mean it’s risk-free. The thermostat wires run back to the air handler and, if you cross the wrong two, you can blow a control board fuse or, worse, send voltage through a wire that should be dead. That turns a $200 thermostat swap into a $600 control board replacement. We see that exact scenario a few times a year in West Palm Beach, usually on a Sunday afternoon when the homeowner was just trying to save a service call.
What you can safely check yourself: batteries, a tripped breaker, or a float switch that’s shut the system down. If the screen is blank but the breaker is on and the batteries are fresh, call us at (728) 220-0996. Devin Marlowe and our crew will tell you honestly whether it’s the thermostat or something else before we ever ask for a commitment.
FAQs
Most Rheem thermostats last 8 to 12 years in West Palm Beach’s heat and humidity. Thermostats mounted on exterior walls or in direct afternoon sun fail faster because the sensor and circuit board operate at higher temperatures. If yours is older than a decade and starting to drift or short-cycle, replacing it is cheaper than chasing intermittent failures.
No. A thermostat is a sealed unit with soldered circuit boards and a digital display. There’s no cost-effective repair for a failing sensor or relay. Once it’s drifting in calibration or short-cycling the system, replacement is the honest fix. Call (728) 220-0996 and we’ll confirm whether the thermostat is actually the problem before you spend a dollar.
A standard Rheem thermostat installation takes 45 to 90 minutes. That includes removing the old thermostat, checking the wiring, installing and leveling the new one, and running the system through a full cooling cycle to verify it reads and controls accurately. Smart thermostat setups with Wi-Fi pairing and app configuration add about 20 minutes.
Yes. We carry Rheem non-programmable and EcoNet-compatible thermostats, plus Honeywell, Emerson, and Ecobee models that work with conventional Rheem systems. We also keep C-wire adapter kits on the truck for homes without a common wire. If you need a specific Rheem EcoNet model we don’t have on board, we can usually have it the next day.
